RAFTING ON THE GENIL RIVER

Currently, the activity of rafting is one of the most in-demand adventure water sports in Andalusia during the summer months.

In Andalusia we enjoy the perfect climate for outdoor activities. Plus, we have a river with more than enough flow for rafting throughout the summer months: the Genil River.

There are other rivers in Andalusia suitable for rafting, but in summer, the only one with enough water flow is the Genil River near Málaga, Granada, and Córdoba.

At OcioAventura Cerro Gordo, we offer you the chance to enjoy this activity guided by professionals and with top-quality service.

Rafting in Andalusia

Why is rafting possible on the Genil River and not others in Andalusia during summer?

Rafting is possible on this river in Andalusia even in the height of summer due to its unique characteristics.

The Genil River is fed by a reservoir at its headwaters, which supplies water throughout the summer. This reservoir is the Iznájar Reservoir, which was the largest in Spain when built and remains the largest in Andalusia with a capacity of 952 hm3. Thanks to this, the Iznájar Reservoir releases between 20 and 40 m3/s of water all summer long—more than enough for a rafting descent on the Genil River with maximum safety and plenty of rapids, waves, holes, and drops. With this flow, the Genil River is rated class 2 with some class 3 sections—making it exciting and attractive for most people.

And beyond the fun…

The Genil River boasts a spectacular riverside forest made up of willows, white poplars, and osiers, among others. You’ll also find a variety of aquatic fauna including the red-knobbed coot, mallard, turtles, cattle egret, and grey heron.

If you’re looking for something different to do in Andalusia, this is the perfect option.
